Book BINGO!

Hi Families,

For the months of November and December, we are going to have a book challenge in our classroom. The purpose will be for students to expand their love for books, to talk more about books, and to read new books that they may not typically choose. This is an optional challenge, but there will be a reward in it (connected with our classroom economy)!

Please feel free to encourage your child to try to get BINGO before our winter break!

Happy reading!!

Leo the Rabbit

Today is math, I was so pleased with ALL of the great math talk around a task students completed in groups.  Here was the problem:

When they reported out at the end and we reflected, students noticed they did at least 6 out of the 8 mathematical practices. They had very engaged, focused conversations. As I was floating around helping groups, I heard things such as, "How about..." "Okay guys, what if..." "Oh, nice idea!" "What if we changed the pattern?" Kids also used representations and mathematical tools to help them with the work. Such great job today from these mathematicians!

Spelling

Hi all,

We have started our new two week cycle for spelling. Students have a copy of their words in their homework folder. Many of you asked for this at open house. It can STAY at home. They have another copy at school that will stay at school.  Students are welcome to and encouraged to practice at home over the next two weeks, but no formal homework will be collected.

Let me know if you have questions! Happy spelling :)
